Safety

The ADX’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XT4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the ADX and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Acura vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Acura above average in initial quality. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Acura vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Acura 16 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the ADX gets better mileage than the XT4:

MPG

ADX

FWD

1.5 turbo 4-cyl.

26 city/31 hwy

AWD

1.5 turbo 4-cyl.

25 city/30 hwy

XT4

FWD

24 city/29 hwy

AWD

23 city/28 hwy

The ADX has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the XT4. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Transmission

The ADX has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Tires and Wheels

The ADX’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XT4’s standard 60 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the ADX’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the XT4’s (37 feet vs. 38 feet).

For greater off-road capability the ADX has a greater minimum ground clearance than the XT4 (7.3 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the ADX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Acura ADX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 350 pounds less than the Cadillac XT4.

Cargo Capacity

The ADX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (24.4 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The ADX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (55.1 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the ADX easier. The ADX’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 27 inches, while the XT4’s liftover is 30.5 inches.

Ergonomics

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Acura ADX has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the XT4.
